how can i care for my rug?

Rug Vacuuming

Rugs should be vacuumed regularly to remove deeply embedded dirt and prolong the life of your carpet. We recommend vacuuming your rug on a low power setting once a week, especially
in the first month. It is important to be careful when vacuuming around the fringes as they can easily get caught and ruined in the vacuum cleaner.

 Spills

Treat any spills by blotting with a dry cloth, and use a common wool cleaning detergent to remove stains. Avoid rubbing or stroking as this can set the stain deeper into the rug. We recommend scraping solids with a blunt knife or a spoon. For hard-to-remove stains, opt for a professional cleaning service.

Shedding

Many new rugs woven in India and Pakistan are sheared after the weaving process in order to achieve the ideal pile height for the style. The shearing process itself can leave small fibers that can be seen as “shedding” when the rug is new. A quick vacuum will get rid of these loose threads. Do not pull loose ends. Clip them with scissors.

Rug Beating

Beating is a traditional way of cleaning a hand-knotted rug. To do this, simply hang your carpet outside and shake it to loosen dirt and other particles.
